As part of Akamai’s plan for future growth, the Tech company recently relocated within Edinburgh to a new office, one in which they could make their own.
Located at a junction of bypasses and within walking distance of the shopping centre, Akamai’s new Edinburgh office delivers on accessibility and location, attracting the forthcoming generation of engineers and employees.
Celebrating an essence of the locality was one of the objectives of the project. The new front of house area, with warm timber features, pendant lighting details and bespoke high-gloss blue panelled joinery creates a striking entrance and welcomes employees and visitors alike.
Centred within the existing architectural elements, impressive four-metre ceilings frame the views out and maximise the incoming daylight. The local heritage was subtly and playfully overlayed throughout the space. Tartan carpet was used in the open plan and meeting zones; forest patterned area rug; vintage feel wallpaper with sconces and a sheep side table all nod to Edinburgh.
The design team created the space around the idea of a communal and accessible workplace which provided plenty of room for meetings, open work and entertaining, highlighted by the Akamai brand colours of blue and orange. Meeting rooms, smaller quiet rooms, a putting green and writeable walls in the open plan workspace provide multiple zones for the team to work the way they need to.
The refined industrial space, surrounded by a neighbouring golf course provided a tranquil backdrop of views into green space from within the workplace, being mindful of sustainability and well-being.
