A leader in mobility retail, Dutch design firm Bugaboo transformed the industry with their modular stroller system fifteen years ago. Headquartered in Amsterdam with offices worldwide, Bugaboo currently sells products in over 50 countries.
Both dated and isolated, Bugaboo’s original space did not reflect their company culture or their modern, playful brand. Planning for growth, they saw a new space as an opportunity to improve their work environment.
Through a comprehensive information gathering process we explored various aspects of the company, brand and culture. Findings from this process drove the choice of location and the resulting design and plan.
Their new space is part of a recently renovated, creative campus with shared amenities. Designed to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior space, it’s open, modern and consistent with the Bugaboo identity.
Aesthetically, the space references their trademark European strollers - clean, stylish and contemporary. The neutral colour palette acts as a backdrop to showcase the strollers as lively pops of colour.
The new space’s footprint represents a 2,500 sqft reduction from Bugaboo’s previous workplace, which raised concerns over future growth with the leadership. By shifting the ratio of private offices to workstations and increasing shared management space, however, we were able to add ten work points, two additional meeting rooms and a large boardroom.
Our strategy to remove physical barriers and open lines of communication between all staff resulted in a dynamic and collaborative environment that has room to grow. The design also allowed Bugaboo to reuse much of their furniture, a significant cost savings.
