A global leader in specialist ICT services and infrastructure solutions, Dimension Data has offices in 58 countries and counts the majority of Fortune 100 companies among its client base.
To meet the changing needs of its business and employees, Dimension Data asked Unispace to refurbish six floors of its Sydney office following our successful design of their Melbourne premises.
A complete activity based workplace (ABW) overhaul was not possible given the project scope and practical business needs, so we focused the design strategy on revitalising their existing workplace while implementing elements of agile work practices.
There were challenges from the outset. The listed building included a number of heritage features, including the old Bushells tea sack slides. The design needed to be sympathetic to conservation issues while also providing a contemporary and inspiring new workplace. And as Dimension Data occupied the building throughout the build, construction was condensed to two weeks per floor to minimise disruption.
Staged construction made coordination between design and project managers essential, and by managing the entire process Unispace was able to deliver on a very tight timeframe.
By optimising space across the floorplate we allowed for future growth as well as cross-collaboration between floors and departments. New informal meeting spaces include private booths for project teams and breakout areas to encourage social interaction.
The result is a refreshed workplace with impact, one that visually aligns with Dimension Data’s ambitious and innovative values.
