Fonterra is a global leader in dairy nutrition and is owned by over 10,000 New Zealand farmers. Originating in Australia, our global partnership with Fonterra has grown to help them design and deliver their first North American headquarters in Chicago.
The space represents a new way of working for the Fonterra team by shifting from a traditional layout to a forward-thinking open floorplan. We designed the space to include a large hub area that has a large open kitchen which can accommodate top chefs to perform, and for staff to collaborate. The workstations and meeting rooms are laid out to encourage effortless collaboration to occur with a flowing coworking floor plan.
Previously located in a bland suburban office, we worked with their brand to ensure we showcased the bold colors found in their logo. We also showcased their values by incorporating natural and local materials throughout and a statement wall covered in cheese graters filled with live plants.
The local flare of Midwest Chicago is also included through custom wall graphics of the city’s most known landmarks and skyline.
Our delivery team was able to ensure we met their tight schedule and kept them on budget through our unique process that allows us to deep dive into costs even during the strategy phase. This informed the design so we knew everything would be buildable without delays.
Fonterra employees thoroughly enjoy working in their new Chicago workplace and feel more connected with colleagues through the open approach to working, making for more productive encounters.
