Unispace is awarded The British Council's, International Safety Award – with Distinction!

We’re delighted to announce that Unispace has been awarded the International Safety Award from the British Safety Council – with Distinction, in recognition of our commitment to the health, safety and wellbeing of our colleagues and workplaces.

Health and Safety is firmly at the centre of how we operate at Unispace. We ensure compliance across multiple territories with varying regulations. Our people power and knowledge maintain the highest of safety standards wherever in EMEA our projects take us. It is crucial for every employee and contractor to depart from their jobs in the healthy condition in which they arrived. Each year we continue to develop and improve our ISO certified Integrated Management System (IMS) and implement new initiatives and processes which assure health and safety through design, construction and occupation of the workplaces we create.

In 2020, we launched our Safer Together initiative, a programme designed to closely align increased safety measures throughout every aspect of the design and construction process, at all levels of the organisation. Health and safety has always been a top priority but the pandemic prompted us to swiftly reevaluate our protocols to ensure even more granular attention to our people’s safety.

Unispace design out risk from our projects at an early stage and we develop great relationships with our supply chain partners to ensure healthy and safe outcomes. To support and maintain the importance of safety in our business, Unispace holds monthly Safety Forums with our supply chain partners and construction delivery teams. These Forums are designed to ensure everyone involved in our projects are aware of our safety performance and understand how they can continue to prevent accidents by reporting hazards. They are also intended to inform workers of the effects of hazardous materials found on construction sites and demonstrating the measurements which should be taken to prevent unhealthy exposures to these substances.

We will continue our efforts to ensure Unispace's core values and healthy and safety commitments are upheld by understanding the nature of business operations, implement strategies to mitigate the identified risk, ensure availability of resources and have processes in place to receive information and comply with obligations. The end result is to continue to be a happy and safe workplace for our employees, in which we are very proud.

“I am delighted that Unispace has been recognised by the British Safety Council for our commitment to health and safety. This International Safety Award with Distinction is a great commendation for all the hard work and dedication I have seen from our leadership, designers and support teams through to our supply chain partners and construction site teams. I want to thank everyone who has contributed for making this award possible. I look forward to celebrating this success across the business over the coming weeks.”

The International Safety Awards

Now in their 65th year, the International Safety Awards recognise and celebrate organisations from around the world which have demonstrated to the satisfaction of the scheme’s independent judges their commitment to preventing workplace injuries and work-related ill health during the previous calendar year. The awards also acknowledge organisations that have shown commitment to wellbeing and mental health at work.

“The vision of British Safety Council is that no-one should be injured or made ill through their work – anywhere in the world. Achieving this requires more than complying with legislation; it means people committed not only to health and safety but also more and more to workplace wellbeing and impelling others to follow suit.”

- Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of British Safety Council
