Swatasiddha (Sid) Majumdar, Principal of Strategy at Unispace India, has been named to Commercial Design’s list of the “50 Minds Behind Workplaces in India.” The nomination reflects his steady, collaborative approach to workplace design rather than any single project or award.
Sid often says that budgets are important, but he treats them as an opening for conversation, not a roadblock. On a recent assignment with a strict cost limit, he and his team suggested ways to include wellness and sustainability features that would help the workspace stay useful and productive well into the future. The client responded by expanding the plan to add height-adjustable workstations—something that had seemed out of reach at first.
For Sid, design is about the experience people have every day, not just the physical setting. At Unispace, he works with clients to connect space planning to real business needs, always explaining the “why” behind each choice.
Looking ahead, he hopes workplace design in India will keep moving toward open, two-way dialogue, where clients and designers learn from each other and see budgets as tools for building better environments. This nomination is as much about those shared efforts—among teams, clients, and colleagues—as it is about any one person.
