Unispace aligns with the creative vision of Edelman
Edelman is one of the world’s largest PR companies, with a presence across Australia and many well-known clients. They engaged Unispace to design and deliver a new workplace to inspire greater collaboration amongst their team. Further motivations included improving their workplace sustainability credentials, and developing an inviting, dynamic, and inclusive environment that would draw staff back into the office. The aim was to make this Sydney office a new template for Edelman’s offices globally.
Edelman relocated to 44 Market St in the heart of Sydney CBD, with amenities right on its doorstep. This building has a 5.0 NABERS Energy rating, which made it a great base for delivering a sustainable workplace. The 740sqm floorplate on the 16th floor boasts views over the CBD and Darling Harbour; it was an ideal space to bring Edelman’s vision and requirements to life.
Refined, contemporary and warm design
Entering the space is immediately inviting, from the entry portal which opens onto the reception area and kitchen, with the mood of a stylish café with leather lounges and terrazzo tabletops. To the other side of the reception is a generous boardroom, providing easy access and magnificent views for clients. A standout of the entry space and kitchen is the parquetry flooring in a warm light wood. This feature flooring continues into the back of house, following a pathway around the perimeter, with a black ceiling mirroring the path and a feature LED light guiding the way.
The back of house space was designed for teams to work in clusters with focus rooms within reach. A calming wellness room and a pitch room were designed for Edelman to work effectively. The desk areas are separated by soft lounge seating for informal settings, adding to the home-like comforts of the space. Having reduced their floorplate size from their previous office, Edelman’s new space is set up to support hybrid working, with AV and streamlined technology to match.
Overcoming unexpected challenges to deliver a quality result
The construction process raised challenges including a change of building management, changing IT requirements, and coordinating multiple on-site services and contractors. We completed construction within a short 7-week program; a space of this size usually takes 8 weeks. We managed to divert 94.6% of waste from landfill, testament to Unispace and Edelman’s shared vision for a sustainable workplace.
Our prompt handling of challenges, alongside a close and enjoyable client relationship throughout design development and construction, ensured that this project reached completion to schedule. A joyful handover ceremony with a dance performance and welcome to Country from Traditional Owners of the land ushered in an exciting era for Edelman and celebrated a successful partnership between Edelman and Unispace.
