After successfully delivering a new workplace for their Business Services team at Macquarie Park, Herbert Smith Freehills appointed us to design a space for their team that would promote health and wellbeing.
The brief was simple, design a flexible space the team can access for wellbeing activities such as socialising, yoga, mindfulness, and celebrations.
We overcame some initial hurdles, including designing for adverse weather conditions, as well as ensuring we incorporated disabled access.
Working in partnership with Herbert Smith Freehills, we created a layout that could be reconfigured to suit any occasion by applying automated louvres, smart furniture and thoughtful location of planter boxes. As you walk into the space, there is a balanced mix of shaded and exposed areas, with views of the surrounding suburbs. The styling and colour palette is a mix of earthy tones, natural timbers, sky blue and coral that are coordinated with the workfloors located below the pavillion. The table bases have been crafted from reused materials adding a colourful, sustainable element to the space.
Plants were a big part of the brief, and were thoughtfully incorporated throughout the pavillion. A vegetable garden was also added and is cared for by the team at Herbert Smith Freehills.
The team have a space to visit if they want to socialise, or just simply clear their minds. The pavillion also features a BBQ for team lunches.
The rooftop retreat has been received well by staff and is a great testament to Herbert Smith Freehills’ forward thinking mindset in the legal workplace.
