Innovation and functionality come together in a space that inspires both employees and clients
Brand narrative and values brought to life in a local context for global software client
Building on our proven, successful partnership with this client in both Melbourne and Sydney, Unispace was tasked with crafting a truly unique workplace environment and Innovation Centre with a remarkable entry and arrival experience. The goal was captivating both new and existing clients, with a platform that showcased the client’s innovative products, alongside a more practical space to host events, and build relationships.
The remaining floor plate was dedicated to additional workspace for the client’s team. We worked closely with the team to develop a space that reflected the global brand, but also maintained a connection to the local Sydney area. Unispace utilised finishes reflecting the natural landscape, custom Indigenous art, and locally sourced materials to build a space that incorporated the best of both worlds.
The team workspace was inspired by the world-famous Sydney harbor, designed with soft forms and curves to reflect the mystery and intrigue of never really knowing what is around the next cove.
The space evokes a sense of freshness and vibrancy, with bright colours purposely contrasted with subtle darker tones. A base material palette was used throughout, with artworks, furniture and lighting used strategically to provide individual spaces and zones. The ultimate goal was to create an environment that reflects the client’s brand, but also allows employees to immerse themselves in a unique and dynamic workplace.
To infuse local culture and artistry into the space, and provide a genuine sense of place, Unispace engaged with talented Australian artists to create two distinct art pieces. Joel Cameron, a renowned mural artist, designed a captivating artwork for the staff breakout area, with the piece embodying the essence of Australia and its vibrant culture.
Unispace also had the privilege of collaborating with Dennis Golding, an indigenous Kamilaroi / Gamilaraay artist. Golding created a stunning work that gracefully narrates the story of the local waterways, gathering places and clans who are profoundly connected to the lands the new office rests on. These artworks provide a unique 'wow' factor, and an indication of a space type change at the staff breakout area.
Upon entering, visitors are greeted with a lounge area featuring additional acoustic features and planting, as well as individual spaces, a relaxation nook and bench seating. The finishes throughout are designed with focus, and calm in mind, promoting the behaviours required. Overall, the new workspace, designed by Unispace for this global software company, is a unique, nuanced blend of art, space, and function.
Visionary approach to the Customer Briefing Centers (CBC) choreographs innovative new sales process
The client’s new CBC offers multi-use spaces, with meeting rooms, dashboards, demo rooms and workshop spaces branching off a central corridor that ends with a dinner space used for events and hosting clients. A highlight of this main corridor is the feature ceiling, with the materials used reflecting the Sydney skyline's light waves and dramatic clouds. This innovative design piece draws visitors into the space, pulling them along on a journey to the multifunctional rooms and custom art installation.
The principles for the CBC were:
* People & Technology: Place people at the center and hero the technology. Illustrate how people-centric tech solutions allow customers to accomplish more meaningful outcomes.
* Sales & Choreography: Capture the critical ingredients of an already successful sales process and translate it into purpose driven experiences that elevate the visitor journey.
*Global Kit of Parts - Localised: Defined touchpoints that can be easily implemented in other sites, locally adapted, and retain the same level of experience.
Designed as a sequence of experiences, the 500sqm CBC aims to take the client on a journey, all the while demonstrating and showcasing the client’s products and their applications. Developed with the client’s CBC & Innovation team, the CBC has the highest quality audio visual equipment built into its architecture. The new flow and layout will be utilised as the latest global standard for the business. This new standard in experiential design aims to present products in their optimal environments, enhanced by state-of-the-art audiovisual integration. Within this experiential journey, poignant moments of storytelling and digital interactions unfurl, guiding customers through the company’s narrative via captivating iconography.
Working alongside the AV team at this global software company, Downstream provided its expertise in audio visual design and documentation services. The integration of large-format digital canvases seamlessly merged with architectural finishes, enhancing meeting rooms and circulation paths. Digital touchpoints stage a dynamic customer flow, from informative LCD screens to expansive 220” touch interactive LED wall panels delivering mesmerizing presentations infused with cinematic audio experiences.
This flagship CBC serves as the ultimate stage for a showcase of the client’s cutting edge products. Crafted by collaboration, software, and curiosity shine brightly. The standards implemented here, are poised for replication across existing and upcoming locations. The company is committed to a digitally interconnected future, with the CBC a living example of driving advancements in process efficiency and productivity.
The client’s new CBC represents a fusion of technological innovation and design elegance, paving the way to an exciting future.
Over 5,000 litres of water saved during construction
At Unispace, we pride ourselves on our ability to navigate tight timelines and deliver exceptional results; this project was no exception. We were granted early access to the site, allowing for demolition to commence while design was finalised. Our team worked diligently to ensure that every aspect of the project remained on track.
One of the standout features on this project was the implementation of a Wash box system. This innovative solution allowed Unispace to save an impressive 5401 litres of water by recycling trade wastewater during the tool washing process. This Washbox system demonstrates the Unispace commitment to sustainability, as well as our dedication to finding creative solutions that benefit both our clients and the environment. Another standout achievement for this project is the 92% of demolition and waste materials during construction were recycled.
During the construction phase, we encountered some challenges while finalizing certain elements of the detailed design. However, due to the excellent collaboration between the client and the Unispace design team, we were able to successfully coordinate and install these components within a short time frame. By implementing a process of design sprints and expedited approval procedures, we ensured that the project remained on schedule without compromising on quality.
To keep our client, who was based overseas, fully informed and involved in the progress of the project, we conducted virtual tours of the site on a weekly basis. This provided a firsthand view of the construction progress, allowing leadership to provide feedback and make informed decisions, regardless of their physical location. This level of transparency and communication was key in building a strong client relationship and ensuring a successful outcome.
This project exemplifies the Unispace approach. We embrace challenges, create innovative solutions, and prioritize effective communication; we deliver exceptional results. Our commitment to sustainability, client collaboration, and employee wellbeing sets us apart as leaders in the industry. As we continue to push boundaries and look to the future, we remain dedicated to exceeding expectations and driving positive change.
At Unispace, we go beyond the mere creation of functional spaces; we understand the profound impact a well-designed environment can have on our clients and their employees. Our partnership with this client has allowed us to showcase their brand narrative and values while providing a remarkable work environment that sets the stage for future success. As we unveil the Sydney CBC, we look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead, always driven by our optimism and forward-thinking mindset in shaping innovative workplaces for our discerning clients.
