Unispace partners with Great Places to Work Spain for Best Workplaces 23 in Madrid

Last week, Unispace partnered with Great Place to Work Spain for the Best Workplaces 2023 event held at the Museo del Traje in Madrid.

The event recognised the Best Companies to work for in Spain, rewarding those who are pioneers in supporting the wellbeing of their employees. We hosted our own area for the evening and celebrated alongside the winners, providing an authentic Jamón Serrano ham cutter experience as well as a digital caricaturist, offering guests the chance to have their caricature captured.

Throughout the event, we showcased our Unispace x Casa Congo initiative which supports communities in Nicaragua through the reduction of plastic waste in local villages and the ocean. Guests were encouraged beforehand, to bring their old plastic bags to the event for recycling where they were able to enter into our raffle. The winner of the raffle won a hand-woven rug from the women of El Astillero made from the plastic bags collected from the event!

We loved our partnership with Great Places to Work Spain and we are looking forward to our future collaborations throughout the rest of 2023.

More about the Casa Congo Initiative

Casa Congo is a sustainability hub in El Astillero, Nicaragua, where local communities and international experts come together to create projects that address challenges in climate change, social inequality and economic development.

Their facilities currently comprise of a school, a bamboo workshop, a lodge and a community centre managed by 2 women cooperatives, Las Flores and Las Tejedoras. Las Flores lead the agroecology and land restoration program, whilst Las Tejedoras transform waste into stunning art installations.

Las Tejedoras, "The Weavers", are a collective of 19 local women in El Astillero who weave recycled plastic into beautiful bags, wallets, curtains or other accessories. Their motto is "1 bolsa meno, 1 tortuga mas" (1 less plastic bag on the beach, 1 more turtle). Casa Congo is supporting the growth of their social enterprise.
