Herbert Smith Freehills invested in a new workplace for its business support services to thrive; a place where they could develop an independent culture focusing on people first.

As one of the world’s leading professional services businesses, Herbert Smith Freehills brings together the best talent to meet the legal needs of their clients.

In a move signalling a new era of modern working in the Australian legal industry, the firm made the decision to transition its Business Services team in Sydney from the CBD to a new business hub in Macquarie Park. Unispace was appointed to realise their vision and deliver a flexible, innovative and  collaborative workplace. We had an existing relationship, having worked with Herbert Smith Freehills to create their global workplace guidelines, outlining global expectations on the design and delivery of all workplace projects.

Their new workplace adopts an agile model; a new concept for Herbert Smith Freehills, focusing on collaborative working. The global design standards were adapted within this concept to maximise variety in space. Unassigned workspaces are supported by dedicated focus and collaborative zones, with writable walls and an interactive innovation hub for project based work.

Integrated technology responds to the flexible nature of the space, allowing team members to move freely throughout the space  and connect seamlessly.

The core of the floor plate is dedicated to built spaces with workstations configured by perimeter windows to maximise exposure to natural light. Curved lines have been integrated into the originally linear space, which offers softness and warmth. A bold colour palette inspired by nature includes deep red, coral, forest green, teal and ink blue hues, each assigned to different zones.

The client welcome area has a sophisticated look and feel, playing on the green and blue tones from the corporate logo. An interconnecting stair leads visitors into the large breakout located on the second floor, which offers sweeping views of the national park and beyond.

Our team responded to a tight schedule to deliver the project on time and within budget with the Herbert Smith Freehills team commenting that Unispace “surpassed expectations.”
