72% of UK employees were concerned about heading back into the workplace.

There’s a general air of reluctance from UK based office workers. And it's no wonder after a global pandemic.

The UK has faced repeated lockdowns and while 2022 kicked off with calls to work from home where possible, the country is largely back to a level of ‘business as usual’. UK employees may feel they can work effectively remotely, but on a longer-term basis, people will be needed back in the workplace for their own development as much as the company’s prospects. So, just how can UK employers encourage people back into the workplace?

Modern office design ideas: Unispace London's new EMEA headquarters by Unispace

Following from the main report, The Reluctant Returner launched late last year, we take a deeper dive into the reluctance to return in the UK. With little research to date, Unispace embarked on a robust survey of over 3,000 employees and 2,750 employers across Europe, to understand the true motivations behind why employees are reluctant to return to the office.

Our research uncovers how to tackle this latest challenge employers are facing. Key insights include work/life balance, salary expectations, bonuses and promotions, commuting, mental and physical wellbeing, lockdown habits, familial responsibilities and most importantly: how employees truly feel about their office design.
